SCHEDEL, H. (ed). Liber Chronicarum - The Nuremberg Chronicle. Single leaf, Folium CXCVIII. Page headed "Setxa etas mundi". C. Koberger: 1493 1st ed 2 pp, 13 hand coloured woodcuts. 18.5" x 12.75", good wide margins with a few small marginal tears and one 2" repaired tear, not affecting printed area. Very clean in an old matte. The displayed side shows 8 hand coloured woodcuts, including one of the earliest, and probably the clearest, printed depictions of a spectacle wearer.
The Nuremberg Chronicle - Liber chronicarum - was the most ambitious book printing project undertaken since the invention of movable metal typesetting, only four decades earlier. It was also the most successful attempt to chronicle the history of the known world from the beginning until that time.
