The
Richmond Book Fair 25.04.05.
The sun shone on our first book fair at The Old Station in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
It was a really successful fair. The
venue was unique being a fairly well-preserved Victorian railway, 'end-of-line'
station in the beautiful setting by the River Swale. The
bookstalls were arranged on both sides of the track-bed (under cover) and I think
that this must have been the first time for most of us, that we were able to drive
our vehicles along to our stalls to unload and load our boxes.
The 27 stalls all very varied and interesting with a good range of quality secondhand
and antiquarian books; plus some railway ephemera and the books of local small
press showing its publications. There were also two charity stalls on the platform
with books for the Richmond Station Regeneration Project and the Richmond Open
Spaces Appeal. The
townspeople of Richmond and from villages around came in flocks steadily throughout
the day, as did day visitors and book dealers and collectors from further afield.
Bargains were to be found and many rare and splendid old books were sold. Most
of the books dealers generally had a good to excellent selling day and I think
that we all enjoyed the fair. Jude

Update
05.05.05 I have booked another Book Fair at the old station in Richmond.
We had such a good day there and the Renovation Project Trust were very pleased
too. They took over £2000 in the weekend (the day before was an open day) with
most of it coming from the Book Fair. So thanks to all who came. They'd like me
to do it again and many of you have also requested that I run another. The date
is Sunday September
11th. Gregg Finn has had to cancel his pre-arranged one in Oswaldtwistle that
day, so anyone who was going to that fair might consider the Richmond one.
