Harlequin Gallery and Golden Goose Books 20-22 Steep Street LINCOLN Lincolnshire LN2 1LT map tel: 01522 522589 e-mail Open: Monday - Saturday 11.30 - 4.30 core opening times, sometimes open earlier and later, ring first. Very large antiquarian & secondhand book stock (much not on view for space and security reasons, please e-mail us with your interests). Very extensive stocks of antique maps (17th -19th century - all counties & most foreign countries usually available) & prints. Antique globe restoration (Golden Goose Globe Restorers). P.B.F.A. members (Golden Goose Books) Poorly organised but OK if you like a rummage with double layers of books on most shelves and others stacked on the floor. - Bridget the Browser. It annoys me when I go into a shop to find that the same optimistically priced stock that I saw last year and even five years before that is still on the shelves, becoming progressively more and more beaten up. Book selling has moved on from this, surely? This could be a really excellent shop - it has a friendly propietor and a fairly interesting stock, but it is, unfortunately, living in the dark ages and needs to adopt a more realistic attitude in its selling. It could certainly have a far greater turnover with more competitive prices on the run-of-the-mill material and the odd sale wouldn't hurt. It just saddens me to see a stock rotting on the shelves - and the worst thing is that this shop isn't the only one that gives the impression that it doesn't want to sell anything. - Nicholas Pendower 06.06.11.

Occupies two adjoining buildings, steeped in Horncastle's past. (History shelves backed by Roman Wall). A large bookshop. Much of the stock is nearly new, not particularly good on fiction, certainly not vintage fiction, not a bad entertainment section. Compared to the other Horncastle shops, slightly pricey. - The Jumping Frog 02.09.10.

Long Sutton Antiques and Craft Centre 72-74 London Road Long Sutton SPALDING Lincolnshire PE12 9ED map tel: 01406 362 991 One of a growing number of such places I am coming across. Basically a group of dealers get together to rent out a large disused retail area, which is then divided up into smaller areas for rent. A very interesting place to look for all things collectable, but also has a fair number of interesting books at reasonable prices amongst the other paraphernalia. So, not strictly a book shop, but has far more books for sale than some dedicated bookshops I have been to. - Steve Newman 16.08.11.

A wide range of general stock, mostly secondhand (with just a few remaindered new books in the front of the shop). The stock is well organised in several small rooms (the shop is much bigger than it appears from the street). Opening hours restricted to 11am-3pm on weekdays and Saturdays (the shop is sometimes open till 4pm on Saturdays, depending on the mood of the owner). The shop is halfway up Steep Hill, which involves a steep climb whichever way you approach it. Sue Ryder Books and Music 1a Priory Road SPALDING Lincolnshire PE11 2XA map tel: 01775 710270 Sue Ryder appear to be the latest chain of Charity Shops moving into 'specialist' areas. A rather haphazard secondhand book shop with some bric-a-brac throw in. It's worth a visit because there's a lot of books to look through, with some gems tucked away behind the paperback fiction. Be prepared for a rummage! - Bridget the Browser. 'Cluttered but wide variety of books, very reasonably priced, friendly owner. Well worth the short walk from main town centre and the park opposite has toilets and a cafe which makes great coffee.' - The Wanderer 30.07.09.

Advice and assistance given freely without commitment. Total and utter chaos! Piles and piles of books prevent buyers from retrieving anything worthwhile, and where there is space the hoover is stuck in the way. I spotted a few things I would have liked to have looked at, but was afraid of excavating for fear of setting off an avalanche and ending my days under a pile of books! I'm sure that there are some good things in this shop but nobody has a hope in hell of finding them while it's in this state. - Nicholas Pendower 27.07.10. Yes it's mad, with books piled everywhere, but it's my favourite bookshop! I always come out with lots of books. The owner can always find the books you're looking for even if they're at the bottom of the pile! - The Jumping Frog 02.09.10.
