| Animal Kitchen Bookshop Moorfield Road NARBERTH Pembrokeshire SA67 7AB map tel: 01834 860811 Open: Phone before travelling New and secondhand books A shop which needs reorganisation. There were many shelves of modern fiction and quite a few with general non-fiction. I did not think there was anything for my tastes until the elderly owner told me to look at three crates at the bottom of a highly stacked pile. Suddenly I was looking at some treasures. So, if you visit, make sure to scramble around. - Chris Harte 10.11.11. Called in Saturday 1.9.12. Normally a 400 mile round trip from home, but just a 3 mile detour for coffee in this case. Plenty of books evident but notice up saying closed Sats & Suns. In fact it looked like it hadn't opened the last few weekdays either. So be sure to ring first. - Tony Carroll 08.09.12.

Asked on entry about where to find any older titles. Told: "Anything we get that's worth over £10 we sell straightaway to dealers. They would never reach our shelves." Only quality items seen on browsing were Welsh, particularly those on local matters. - Chris Harte 03.09.09. Excellent Bookshop! Owner was friendly and helpful, with some real treasures found for a very reasonalble price. I left with a full bag! - Catherine James 13.10.09.

Always call in when passing for they have a substantial reserve stock. - Chris Harte 23.06.11. A proper bookshop in a charming town - WAD. - Steven Whitehead 03.03.12.

Cardigan Antiques Centre Priory Street CARDIGAN Ceredigion SA43 1BX map tel: 07974 935712 Open: Monday - Saturday 9.30 - 4.30, and Sundays during the holiday period. I walked in expecting to see a varied quality of goods from the twelve traders who are in the Centre. What I found was one booth of solid books and four others with fairly reasonable holdings. To my amazement I picked up two 1875 volumes and quite a few other decent titles. There is no speciality but it is worth visiting if you are in the town. - Chris Harte 28.11.11.

Free car park in Long St. Frontage on main road gives no indication of what is quite a treasure-trove reaching down through rooms full to the brim of interesting titles. Muddled, musty and somewhat eccentric but worth a stop if you are passing. Junk room a must for railway buffs. - Chris Harte 03.09.09. This is an antique centre dominated by old railway signs so inevitably it is good for railway enthusiasts with a good collection of well priced books on railways. Not sure the rest of the stock is very interesting but some good local books. - Norman Davies 30.07.11.
Cofion Books and Post Cards Bridge Street TENBY SA70 7BU map tel: 01834 845741 A tiny shop jammed with huge piles of books, in a small lane off the harbour, and close to the National Trust Tudor Merchant's House. Corran Books Ltd King Street LAUGHARNE Carmarthenshire SA33 4RY map tel: 01994 427444 fax: 01994 427709 e-mail web What I expected to find and what I found were miles apart. An old building where the humidifiers were working full blast in the basement to try and prevent books Oxfam would decline rotting away. The owner had a number of titles I had on my 'wants list' but his prices ranged from eight to ten times what I would normally expect to pay. He had, obviously, Dylan Thomas, material but little else. My special trip was a total waste of time. - Chris Harte 12.11.09. Not just a book shop - rather a history - a part of Laugharne - as is it's knowledgeable and kindly owner. - Flossiebritches 16.02.13.

Academic books, antiques & musical instruments bought and sold. Underrated by previous reviewers. Well worth a thorough search for the unusual (and moderately priced, too); very friendly and knowledgable staff - jduester 30.09.10. A difficult shop to describe. Oxfam Bookshop 34 Castle Street SWANSEA West Glamorgan SA1 1HZ map tel: 01792 654710 This was a surprise. Not only has it got a large section on local and regional interests but the antiquarian section, although not large, had a few decent publications on the shelves. I purchased two bags worth of nineteenth century books, a rarity for me from a charity outlet. - Chris Harte 19.09.12. A good example of an Oxfam bookshop. Busy on the day I visited but one of the members of staff was still going the extra mile to help a customer find an obscure title. I do not have a complaint against the shop but it is a sad reflection that this is now the best secondhand bookshop in Swansea. - Steven Whitehead 10.01.13.

A remote hillside bookshop housed in converted barns in the foothills of the Cambrians within a three acre garden project. A journey into the middle of nowhere was rewarded by a friendly greeting, hot coffee and lots of chatter. This really is an oasis in the wilderness and the tens of thousands of titles on offer took some hours to browse. The theological stock took the whole of one massive converted barn. Other subjects, with a large gardening section, were a joy to behold. Only a fraction of the books are on the internet at the moment. There are many scarce titles on offer, particularly on field sports and rural pursuits. WWAD. - Chris Harte 05.03.13.
