19.12.13. The Bloomsbury Ephemera Fair on Sunday 22nd December has grown steadily over 2013 and now features many more regular bookdealers, as well as the usual ephemera, print and map specialists. This month they also have a number of postcard dealers. The fair will continue to grow in 2014, with extra room booked at the hotel, you can expect many more specialists in postcards and books. 6.12.13.  For many years Woodbridge Book Fair was organised by the PBFA but from 2014 it will be managed by Missing Book Fairs.  Add a comment

6.12.13. John Smith of North West Fairs will run 20 events again in 2014 but there will be no dates in Bolton or Ingleton. However, he is running a new fair at Staining, near Blackpool and is co-managing the Leeds Book Fair with Pauline Walker, which returns to Pudsey Civic Hall.  Add a comment

5.12.13. Sadly, both of the fairs run by Georgina Babey - at Lyndhurst and Shaftesbury will now only be quarterly, starting in March.  Add a comment

5.12.13. The PBFA are currently proposing to run less fairs in 2014 - 78 dates compared with 85 in 2013. Among the losses are the London Performing Arts, Cirencester and Beverly fairs. However, there are 4 new events: an Edingurgh Festival Fair, a Christmas event in Kensington, London, a Northern Illustrated, Children's & Detective Fiction Book Fair, and an event at Blickling Hall in Norfolk.  Add a comment

2.12.13. Ralph Carter has also had to cancel the Herne Book Fair on December 15th because he now has to undergo surgery on the 12th. However, he hopes to be well enough to run the first fair of 2014, on January 19th.  Add a comment

25.11.13. 37 exhibitors will be at Farnham Bookfair on Sunday December 1st, displaying a wide range of books for collectors and the general reader. 25.11.13. On November 30th, the last New Forest Book Fair before Christmas promises to be a lively affair with more and more dealers vying for space. Joss Mullinger (This Way Books) and Bryan Bechter will both be bringing a fine selection of Ordnance Survey maps and local history ephemera. Peter Hubbard of Bufo Books will be there for the military specialist, Brenda Coleman and Pam Bishop for children's collectables, and natural history is well covered by the likes of Neil Gartshore and Noel Crack. 25.11.13. Bodnant Garden Centre in North Wales are holding a Book Fair on November 30th. Books for dealers and book buyers looking for Christmas gifts, with authors, publishers and book binders as well as sellers. Welsh and English books, second hand and new. Proceeds to Ty Gobaith Children's Hospice.  Add a comment

22.11.13. More than 20 dealers, both local and from further afield will be exhibiting at the Annual PBFA Cirencester Book Fair on Sunday 24th November. There will be a wide range of secondhand, collectable and antiquarian books, prints and maps.  Add a comment

19.11.13. The PBFA Exeter Book Fair on December 1st now has its own website, where you can find full details of the fair, including exhibitors and highlights of what will be on offer.  Add a comment

11.11.13. Birmingham Greyhound Protection are holding a Charity Book Sale on December 7th. "Thousands of quality secondhand books, including a large selection of children's books - all hardbacks£1, all paperbacks and children's books 50p".  Add a comment

5.11.13. This year's Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair on the 1st and 2nd November 2013, impressed with sales of £464,000 - up by nearly 30% from last year and average sales up by 25% ... more  Add a comment

5.11.13. Etc Fairs has two book fairs this weekend, Saturday 9th November sees the last Gerrards Cross book fair of 2013, followed on Sunday 10th November by the Bloomsbury Book Fair. This year's Chelsea Antiquarian Book Fair, which opens on Friday November 1st, will showcase the traditional pre-Christmas feast of printed delights, offered by 82 of the worlds leading specialists. As usual, many of the highlights can be viewed here. And in an expanded programme of book tours, specialist dealers will give advice on a number of collecting areas, ranging from classic movie and children's books to explorers and voyages.  Add a comment

At the New Forest Book Fair on Saturday October 26th twenty dealers will be offering books, maps, ephemera, prints and original paintings of local and national interest and in all subject areas. 14.10.13. Amnesty Blackheath and Greenwich are holding a Book Sale on November 23rd. Amnesty has collected thousands of books from a variety of sources, including publishers and book reviewers, as well as individual donors. Many of the books are brand new, and the quality of books on sale will be exceptionally high.  Add a comment

10.10.13. A very late entry for Roger Knowles second Birmingham Book & Ephemera Fair, on Friday October 18th. Expect 20+ dealers offering antiquarian & collectable books; printed & aanuscript ephemera; maps & prints.  Add a comment

9.10.13. The Bloomsbury Book Fair on Sunday October 13th is in the newly refurbished Galleon suite of the Royal National Hotel. Expect over 100 dealers showing a vast array of material, book specialists in all areas, alongside some of the very best map and print dealers and ephemera specialists. We also have bookbinders and auctioneers on hand, so every bibliophile, collector or casual browser is catered for! Doors open 10am, entrance £2 until 12.30 and thereafter free.  Add a comment

7.10.13. On the subject of dates, I know that it still feels like summer but we are already being asked about next year's dates. It makes sense to get the dates up at the earliest opportunity, as it helps avoid conflicts which can be costly in terms of lost customers. 28.09.13. 1000s of secondhand books will be available at the FSW annual Book Sale, which will be held over the weekend of November 15th-17th.Free entry and just 8 minutes from Porstlade Station, with buses stopping outside the venue.  Add a comment

28.09.13. At the Farnham Maltings Bookfair on Sunday October 6th around 40 exhibitors will display a wide range of books for collectors and the general reader. Author Juanita Ingram  is  attending, also John Phipps of UKBookWorld. There are also military specialists, modern firsts, juvenile and illustrated plus some ephemera and prints and much more. 26.09.13. The Glasgow Botanic Gardens Book Fair on September 27th-30th will be Barry Thurston's last, as he will be retiring. With this in mind all books and maps on his stand will be half price.  Add a comment

23.09.13. Saturday October 19th is the first date for a new monthly secondhand book fair in Middlesbrough. Organiser John Bloom says that they will be selling a a range of popular, academic and antique books, with live (unplugged) music and poetry readings throughout the day.  Add a comment

10.09.13. Roger Treglown has reluctantly CANCELLED this Saturday's Macclesfield Heritage Centre Book Fair on September 14th, and all further fairs at this venue.  Add a comment

9.09.13. At Shaftesbury Book Fair on September 14th, a pristine copy (probably the proof) of the 1939 facsimile edition of John Ogilby's linear road maps Britannia, or , an Illustration of the Kingdom of England and Dominion of Wales first published in 1675, will be on offer. Not only is this book in its original tissue guard cover but in a postal box + contemporary stamps and addressed to the publisher. Slight foxing to endpapers, but the maps themselves in fine condition. A true collector's item for the map enthusiast.  Add a comment

Etc Fairs have two events this weekend - on Saturday 7th September the Gerrards Cross Book Fair takes place at the Memorial Centre in Gerrards Cross, followed on Sunday 8th September by the Bloomsbury Book Fair at the Royal National Hotel, London.  Details on both fairs can be found on their website.    Add a comment

For many September means the York Book Fair, which has grown to be the largest book fair in the UK, with some 220 of the country's leading booksellers offering a breathtaking diversity of books, as well as posters, ephemera, manuscripts, maps and prints. 20.08.13. Richard Frost's Bank Holiday Book Sale in Berkhampsted will have 7-8 dealers, selling all books at £2 each - many much reduced from the original prices. There will be lots of bargains for dealers, specialists and readers. The venue is in the centre of the historic town, and there will also be the  large annual Lions Club fete on in the afternoon nearby.  Add a comment

19.08.13. Stephen Lloyd has two book fairs on the Isle of Wight this autumn. The first is at the Botanic Garden in Ventnor on September 8th, where 7 or 8 dealers will offer books, postcards, stamps & ephemera. 12.08.13. At the PBFA's annual Bakewell Book Fair on Saturday 17th August, 25 dealers will offer a wide range of books, prints and maps in all price ranges. There is plenty of car parking and a good cafe at the venue as well as lots of options within the town which is just 2-3 minutes walk away over the bridge. Other attractions such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and the caves at Castleton are only short distances away, so it is well worth having a day out in the area and including the book fair in your itinerary.  Add a comment

8.08.13. Patrick Anderson writes: 'my wife Diane and I have been attending the Forfar Book Fair for many years and we have always found the event well attended in the Reid Hall in the town. What a nice friendly staff at the entrance area to welcome each of us to the annual event and nice to see some of the "old" faces from the book trade too, but sad to see some were not there having possibly retired since this year's event! At Shaftesbury Book Fair on August 10th there will be plenty of local topography, natural history and military, and a rare opportunity to acquire 2 unusual 1st edition vols of the short-lived Harvest compilations (Castle Press 1948, 1950, edited by Vincent Stuart). With contributions of essays, poems and illustrations by leading art & literary figures of the day, as well as some old masters including Vita Sackville-West, Mervyn Peake, Paul Nash, Roy Campbell, Duncan Grant and Ardizzone. 29.07.13. Approximately 20 booksellers from across the West country, Dorset and Gloucestershire will be bringing books to  Exeter Book Fair in Topsham on Sunday August 4th. All tastes will be catered for; from Biggles books at £5, to rare works on the history of Exeter. The booksellers will offer secondhand books on all subjects including childrens, travel, literature, maritime, local history, sport, and railways, as well as collectable fiction by many popular authors.  Add a comment

2.07.13. Tunbridge Wells Book Fair organiser Steve Marshall wrote to say that there had been some discussion about the possible closure of King Charles Hall for building works. However, this is not the case, and the September 7th and subsiquent fairs will continue to be held at this venue.  Add a comment

Richard Frost advises that the Berkhamsted Book Fair we have listed for October 5th has been CANCELLED and will now take place on Saturday November 2nd. Richard is also organising another Bank Holiday Book Sale on August 26th, this time at the Court House in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. 26.06.13. This Sunday 30th June the annual Heart of England Book Fair will take place at the National Motorcycle Museum near Solihull. A 'full house' of around 55 bookdealers makes this the largest book fair in the Midlands, with leading and popular dealers travelling down from Northern Britain and up from the South, including London to offer a wide selection of choice items. On display at the New Forest Book Fair on Saturday 29th June will be a good condition 1st edition (A&C Black, 1936) of Allen W Seaby's British Ponies: Running Wild and Ridden - profusely and delightfully illustrated by Seaby in b&w. 15.06.13. I've been wading through my mail and have just come across this from CB: "I think that the Kinver Book Fair on June 16th may have been POSTPONED. There is a carnival on that day and I have a feeling that I saw a notice at May's fair that it had been postponed. It would be worth anyone travelling to make a check."  Add a comment

13.06.13. The Bloomsbury Summer Ephemera Fair on Sunday June 16th is the last event of International Book Fairs Week. The fair takes place in the Galleon A and B of the Royal National Hotel and features not just dealers in ephemera, but those in maps, prints, and books. Expect to see quite a few dealers from the usual Bloomsbury Book Fair exhibiting, alongside completely new exhibitors to this event. 31.05.13. This year's London International Book Fairs Week 8th - 16th June 2013 will be the biggest celebration of Print-on-Paper in the World. As usual we have a dedicated page with a decription and diary of all the events, along with links to all the fair sites, and highlights from the major fairs. 31.05.13. It's Beverley Book Fair on Saturday 8th June and dealers from the north and midlands will be displaying a wide variety of books, maps, and other printed material. This year we are pleased to be joined by Conway's Book Binders of Halifax, who will be displaying a range of book conservation materials.  Add a comment

28.05.13. On September 21st John and Dan Smith are organising a Book, Record and Collectables Fair at the Friends Meeting House in Lancaster. They say there will be "35 Stalls of secondhand books, vinyl and collectables under the roof of one of Lancaster's most discreet architectural gems, the 'Meeting House' dates back to early 1700's and is surrounded by beautiful gardens." 22.05.13. The Summer 2 day PBFA fair in London on Friday 14th & Saturday 15th June, is being held at a new venue - the ILEC Conference Centre,within the Ibis London Hotel, Earls Court. A full house of around 107 dealers from the UK , Europe and the USA will be offering a wide selection of of antiquarian, rare, secondhand and generally collectable books, manuscripts, ephemera, artworks, prints and maps.A wide variety of world renown dealers will be offering a vast selection of books on just about any subject you care to mention. On display at the New Forest Book Fair on Saturday May 25th and in its original binding: The New Farmer's Calendar: or Monthly Remembrancer for all kinds of Country Business: Comprehending all the Material Improvements in the New Husbandry, with the Management of Live Stock (1801, 3rd edition) by 'A Farmer & Breeder'. On Saturday 11th May the popular Gerrards Cross Book Fair will offer a good diversity of books at an excellent venue, with good parking and great refreshments. 22.04.13. The ABA will be hosting an amusing, informative and deceptive exhibition at the London International Antiquarian Book Fair which opens on Thursday June 13th. "Books NOT Books" will show the book in a variety of different  forms  -  Books as Art, Books as Boxes, Books as Anything-other-than-Books - whether  it is a handbag, pin box or biscuit tin! The majority of the objects on show have come from a single collection, but the ABA is encouraging anyone who would like to lend an object to let them know - the more offbeat the better!  Add a comment

14.04.13. Thames Book Fairs Farnham event on Sunday April 21st in the historic old Malthouse will see 35 exhibitors, displaying a wide range of books for collectors and the general reader. There are military specialists, modern firsts, juvenile and illustrated plus some ephemera and prints and much more, with some first time exhibitors at this fair. 10.04.13. This month's Bloomsbury Book Fair on Sunday 14th at the Royal National Hotel opens at 10.00 - entrance is £2.00 until 12.30 and is free thereafter. 18.03.13. City & Country Farmers' Markets have organised the country's longest running Farmers' Market at Dulwich College, since 2001. Alongside the Farmers' Market they also hold an Arts & Crafts Fair every month inside the college cloisters, and they are looking to expand it by adding collectable books to the mix. Lewes Book Fair on Saturday March 16th will see the usual full complement of over 40 dealers, many of whom only take a stall here, so there is every chance of finding books that are fresh to the market. Lewes is a very 'booky' town with three established second-hand bookshops anda good number of antique markets with book stalls all within easy walking distance, so a day out in Lewes will provide a good book buying opportunity for all visitors.  Add a comment
