This is my second year of attending this fair/sale in a nice old Church on the edge of the Heath. I arrived quite late about 1300 hrs to see people walking up the road carrying piles of books. I feared that I might be too late, but in the event found the venue still busy with the books as usual on the church pews and better categorised than last year. In the modern and recent fiction category, I found many new / review copy hardbacks and many I had bought full price this year as well. A recent biography of Douglas Haig was a snap up and I came away having paid £10.00 for 10 books, mostly new, mostly hardback. The books were all half the marked price, in most cases £2.00. The full retail price of my haul would have exceeded £135.00. I heard unconfirmed talk of another sale in the summer. Their web site mentions June (going on 2016 at any rate) . This, as with many charity causes, is well worth supporting, especially at the moment when regimes around the world are lurching into insanity. For me at least this event is WWAD. - Jon Morgan 20.11.16.

13.11.16. ExLibris (members of the Federation of Masked Booksellers) are holding a Charity Children's Book Sale in Nottingham on November 19th & 20th. Children's books rescued from destruction and sold at low prices to raise funds for Nottingham charity, School for Parents.  Add a comment

31.07.16. On July 15th & 16th exhibitors from the ABA and the PBFA set out their stalls in Brunel's magnificent old station in Bristol. Whilst the number of dealers exhibiting and the take was down on last year, the organisers felt that the 25% increase in the number of paying visitors showed that they were attracting new potential customers. Indeed, many young people were attending their first book fair. And it's not unreasonable to assume that drop in takings was at least in part down to the current economic uncertainty and a cautiousness about committing to expensive purchases. Fair managers Will Goodsir and Graham York remain enthusiastically committed to the venue and belive the fair can really build into something special, provided the trade can be persuaded to support it.  Add a comment

The February fair will be the 31st held there since fairs started in August 2006. The organiser is trying to recruit as many as possible of those dealers who have occassionaly exhibited there over the last 10 years to join the hardcore of regulars and provide a great last fair for the faithfull customers.
