Blacklocks specialize in polo prints and polo books. We have probably the largest stock of polo books and prints in Britain.
Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsA small shop containing many good quality titles. Very strong on Polo as well as a top of the range selection of sporting books. I found the owner's conversation on publishers, and the trade in general, to be extremely helpful. - Chris Harte 09.02.10.

Went today and was most disappointed. Basically this is an Antiques shop with a few shelves of books. - Ian P 19.05.15.

Good mix general bookshop with LPs and classical cds. (established about 1994)
Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsLittle or no antiquarian material, but good general second-hand stock; particular strengths in transport, politics and business history, and an extensive selection of reasonably priced classical CDs and vinyl records. Turnover tends to be fairly slow, but certainly worth a visit, particularly if you have not been before do call in before yet another of Surrey's dwindling number of second-hand bookshops disappears. Free parking at the Raglan shopping centre two minutes away. - John 25.05.17.
A resolutely old-fashioned shop, strongest on non-fiction and with subjects meticulously categorised; there is even a section labelled 'Insects'. I got the impression that turnover is slow; the arts section contains almost nothing on practitioners working in the last 50 years. Railway and other transport holdings are especially impressive, and prices are reasonable. Well worth a shufty. - Nicholas Sack 24.12.18.
Nice little bookshop. I echo the other reviews: not a huge turnover of stock, but I never have a problem finding something interesting when I pop in every few months. Prices reasonable. Short drive to Oxted's The Secondhand Bookshop, so I usually head their after. (Oxted seems to have nicer cafes for lounging while admiring my purchases... perhaps TBG should have a section on reader friendly cafes!) - TheWavesBroke 12.07.19.

Open: Open Monday - Saturday 11.00 - 5.30, Sunday from 11.00.
A mixture of good Secondhand & Antiquarian hardback books (usually about 1,000 books on view) within a 30 dealer Antique Centre. Mainly non-fiction but usually some good classics, including books on Transport, Biography, Travel, Topography, Architecture, Science, etc. Across the bridge from the Palace with a few other Antique shops close by.
Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsIn reality, just a mishmash of odds and ends. Certainly no antiquarian. The only discernible 'section' comprised a hundred or two very tired children's books. - Muggins 17.10.14.
Don't agree above. This had a number of small units with a variety of fairly decent books. OK not for the antique book dealer but for the general reader/collector like me not at all bad and low prices. - Norman Davies 07.04.16.

Well worth a visit - a good stock for a charity shop including some collectables. - Herne 25.11.11.

Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsThe usual Oxfam Bookshop with a wide range of books on most subjects prices slightly higher than other similar shops but not too bad. The one at Farnham not that far away in the same borough of Waverley I think is similar but prices are lower and is heavily frequented, always find books to buy there. - John Bacon 19.07.14.
Decent size stock. Quite a large and varied history section, including military but not limited to. No antiquarian but some older children's stuff. Prices ... slightly higher than some charity shops but by no means the worst I've seen (£2.95 each for 3 fairly recent history PBs). Good shop if you're in the area. - Flip M 30.01.16.

Very neat and organised Oxfam Bookshop. Good crime and general fiction sections. Nothing compared to the traditional large secondhand bookshops with all manner of thousands of books. But worth a visit if you are in the area. - taylor 01.02.18.
One of the most orderly shops in the land: all books neatly shelved in categories clearly labelled. Plenty of room, and chairs for browsing in comfort. Sadly, the stock is rather pedestrian - but ten Georges Simenons at two quid each caught the eye. - Nicholas Sack 04.06.19.

Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsUnusually for Oxfam, this has the homely feel of an established bookshop. There are some uncommon titles among generally good quality stock, as befits this prosperous part of Surrey. Also sells CDs and small potted plants. Cheerful staff. Well worth a shufty. - Nicholas Sack 30.05.19.
Have been here many times and invariably leave empty handed. Grossly overpriced. - Mandalay Bookshop 13.06.19.
This shop goes from bad to worse. Notwithstanding the crazy prices, the stock never changes. I am still seeing the same books from last year. No more wasting my time in this apology for a bookshop. - Mandalay Bookshop 21.08.19.

Very good general stock 50p to £1500 no specialities. I now only have one shop + cpbooks in Old Oxted as an internet business. I still love to buy book collections.
Add a comment Read commentsHide commentsI was really surprised to find such an airy shop in a lovely town. The good quality stock was well classified; it was easy to browse, and the manager was most pleasant. Very good Surrey and Kent holdings. A visit is recommended. - Chris Harte 29.06.09.
Very rude service when I (ever so politely) suggested a notice in the shop was misleading to customers: ''I understand it and as it's my bookshop that's all that matters''. Poor manners and totally uncalled for lack of civility ... - Nigel 12.07.12.
David is one of the best booksellers I know and he is never anything but helpful and charming. His shop always has lots of interesting things and he oversees it with rigour, ensuring that it has a good turn over and never becomes stagnant. I always find loads to buy and it is most unfortunate that the previous reviewer has not focused on the quality of the business. Good book shops can certainly do without touchy customers like this! - Nicholas Pendower 14.09.12.
Found this shop by chance last autumn, a well stocked shop, in particular a good selection of old Penguins which I collect. All fairly priced, and shop owner was an extremely pleasant man. Will certainly visit again when in the area. - Rebecca 16.02.13.
At first I thought I'd made a wasted journey but the unprepossesing exterior conceals a rather good shop. Large/Medium size general stock but some gems and reasonable prices. OOS (out of station, TBG) and shop is directly opposite. - Son of Drif 09.07.13.
This was the first time I had visited the shop and I wished I had visited before. A well situated shop right next to the station with a nice window display. Light and airy inside and well laid out with all subject areas of interest. Very helpful assistant who contacted the owner to let him know I was here. A half hour journey from Victoria on the East Grinstead line. Will visit again. - oko2020 20.02.15.
Yet again a delightful visit to this splendid shop. I cannot speak too highly about the quality of stock; the pleasant manner in which all my queries were answered and the good fortune to meet a regular contributor to The Book Guide (who, alas, would not give me his name). The shelves were easy to check and my interests were well serviced. WWAD. - Chris Harte 06.06.15.
I heartily endorse Chris Harte's praise for this excellent shop. A good range of topography and transport, and Ordnance Survey maps at £1 a pop. The warmly sociable proprietor gave me a discount on an already bargain-priced scarce volume of Eric de Mare's architectural photos, because a previous buyer had inscribed the flyleaf. Stock is not listed on the internet, so a visit is essential; half an hour by train from London and bang opposite the station. - Nicholas Sack 15.06.15.
My second visit to this shop but the first in some time. It is an excellent shop in all respects. Quality stock, well laid out with contributions from most areas of interest. A good set of original Hardback Arthur Ransome. great History and military section. Good fiction. Signed first edition at only £10.00 WWAD. - Jon Morgan 06.07.17.
Return visits to this excellent shop are always a pleasure. The extensive stock of local history and topography, especially Surrey and London, includes many unusual small press titles. I bought an attractive Ian Allan album for a fiver, and a clutch of recent Landranger and Pathfinder OS maps at a pound each. Highly recommended. - Nicholas Sack 15.12.18.
I have been asked to view the stock Book n Bits Horley as the owner has died. Possible shop closure. - David 17.06.19.
